Family Housing Network
UCUP serves as a host site twice a year for Family Housing Network, providing beds, food and friendship to families in transition. Each December, members of the congregation ‘adopt’ a Family Housing family and supply them with holiday gifts.
UCUP sends a team of volunteers to work at My Sister’s Pantry located in the lower level of 1st United Methodist Church of Tacoma:
621 Tacoma Ave.
Associated Ministries Pierce County Hunger Walk
Each October a team of UCUP walkers and supporters participate in the Pierce County Hunger Walk to raise funds and awareness for this important issue.
Alternative Gift Fair
During the Advent season, our Peace & Justice committee holds an Alternative Gift Fair. This annual event encourages members to purchase gifts that support organizations including Heifer International and Church World Service
Faith Action Network
We support the work of Faith Action Network by joining with over 100 faith communities across Washington State to represent a powerful, moral voice for social change. With the belief that justice work is part of our religious calling, we partner with FAN to communicate with elected officials about critical social issues to advocate for a more just and sustainable world.
Part of the legislative agenda includes: reducing wealth inequality; funding and protecting health and mental health programs; dismantling a culture of violence; protecting housing and prevent homelessness; and sustaining the environment. We host a table for the Annual Dinner each year, and participate in the Interfaith Advocacy each year in Olympia.
One Great Hour of Sharing
Every year we participate in One Great Hour of Sharing by sharing our financial gifts to support te church’s wider mission.
